GEORGE TOWN – The management of Queensbay Mall in Penang have assured that the cleaners who recently contracted Covid-19 are not from the current crew hired by the cleaning vendor.
In a statement today, the management said the vendor had brought to their attention on March 18 concerns of Covid-19 cases at its staff accommodation.
“Upon notification, we immediately requested the cleaning vendor to replace the entire cleaning crew with a new batch of cleaners as a precautionary measure.
“We also conducted a thorough deep cleaning and sanitising exercise for the entire mall,” read the statement.
“To ensure we are in full compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines, we proactively updated the authorities and were assured that we are in full compliance of the authorities' SOPS.”
The statement added that the reported 20 cleaners who contracted the virus over the past two weeks are not from the present crew.
“We want to assure our stakeholders that these cleaners are not from the current cleaning crew,” the statement added.
The management assured that the health and well-being of their employees, tenants and shoppers are their utmost priority.
They said enhanced and additional safety and precautionary measures beyond the basic cleaning requirements since the onset of the virus have been enforced.
“We have also imposed stringent safety requirements on our external vendors and require them to perform weekly testing on their staff stationed at the mall,” the statement added.
“We are actively monitoring the development of Covid-19 and stand ready to adopt additional precautionary measures, if and when required by the authorities.”
Yesterday, The Vibes reported that over the past two weeks, cleaners at the mall have been infected with Covid-19.
An employee at the mall told The Vibes that he was informed by a cleaner that several other cleaners were infected, and that the management is aware of the matter. – The Vibes, April 1, 2021
