SANDAKAN – Sandakan folk are letting their guard down and going out as they please due to the dwindling number of Covid-19 cases in the district.
Local resident Choke Wen Wen, 30, said she still worries about the coronavirus, but admits that life goes on sooner or later.
“I feel like my life is normal again. I do not think twice about going out of my house when I need to buy something; I even go out because I am bored sometimes.
“But the difference is now I will wear a face mask and practise physical distancing (when going out), and I have my MySejahtera app to scan the barcode at premises.
“To be honest, I am disciplined in using the app as I want to avoid the RM10,000 fine,” she said, speaking to The Vibes at the Kim Fung night market yesterday.
The market, which opens every Saturday evening, has seen the gradual return of its crowd from last month.
It was packed with visitors yesterday, too, as most stalls were open for business.
Previously, even when sellers were allowed to operate, the market was empty, with less than half of the stalls open and very few visitors.
A domestic helper, who wanted to be known only as Siti Azielah, said she has even started visiting karaoke centres with her friends during her off days.
The 21-year-old said her employer always reminds her to stay safe while outside.
“They (employer) are confident that I am aware of the standard operating procedures that I need to observe to stay safe.”
Sandakan is now a yellow zone with less than 20 fresh infections.
Three new Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday, and one today.
