MIRI – The Sarawak Highland Development Authority has allocated RM1.5 billion to bolster internet coverage, among others, in northern Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg said the huge sum of money will be put to good use and is part of the state’s initiative to spend big for the rakyat.
“The Sarawak Highland Development Authority has been given the RM1.5 billion allocation by the state government to upgrade the livelihoods of the people,” Abang Johari said when launching internet service in Long Terawan deep in the Baram district.
“The money will be used for road upgrading, provision of electricity and water supply, construction of bridges and also provision of internet services.
“We aim to provide internet connection to every rural settlement. We in the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government are sincere in wanting to give rural Sarawakians a better life,” he said.
Abang Johari also urged the people of Long Terawan not to be lured by the opposition, saying he was aware of efforts to turn them against the state government.
“I know there are people coming and telling rural folks to oppose our development agenda.
Long Terawan is located deep in the jungles of Mulu National Park, and Abang Johari said he hopes that once there is internet coverage in the area the services are not used to attack the GPS government online.
“Do not make use of the internet to oppose the government,” he said.
Abang Johari flew to Long Terawan by helicopter this morning as part of a two-day working visit.
