KUALA LUMPUR – All economic sectors in Klang will be allowed to operate as usual, despite being placed under conditional movement control order (CMCO) starting tomorrow.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the decision is made taking into consideration Klang’s high economic contribution and its role as one of the country’s main industrial centres.
The senior minister said the district is home to Port Klang that contributes more than RM400 billion in trade activities in 2019.
“After considering the health situation in Klang and the importance of ensuring economic sustainability, the National Security Council (NSC) today has decided to allow all economic sectors in the Klang district to continue operations as usual, with strict compliance to SOPs.
“The authorities have been instructed to increase enforcement on SOP compliance, to ensure the safety of all workers and residents of Klang,” he said in a statement today.
Azmin said this decision follows an earlier discussion with Selangor Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman on proactive measures that have been taken by the state to contain the Covid-19 virus.
He added companies that violate the SOPs will have their operations suspended immediately and face legal action based on existing laws.
“The government’s decision takes into account the need to balance the wellbeing and safety of the rakyat, as well as ensuring job security and efforts to stimulate the economy.
“It (decision to allow industries to operate) is also to ensure there is no supply chain disruption to logistics, F&B, and others.”
Klang will begin CMCO today and excludes areas such as Port Klang and Kapar. – The Vibes, October 8, 2020
