KUALA LUMPUR – The two people found dead at a three-storey townhouse in Jalan Medang Serai, Bangsar today are believed to have died from asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation.

In a statement, police confirmed that the two bodies belonged to a married couple.

Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar said the couple, married in 2018, rented the house three days ago.

“Initial investigations revealed that the couple burnt coal in the room, closed the doors and windows, and slept.

“Medical officers from University Malaya Medical Centre predicted that the couple died around 7am today due to asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation,” he said.

Earlier today, The Vibes was at the scene where police personnel were sighted removing the bodies from the premises.

“On April 9, 2021, around 12.33pm, a police report was made by a 27-year-old man concerning the deaths of an Indian man, 46, and a 38-year-old Thai woman,” said Anuar.

He also said that the complainant rang the victims many times, but there was no response, resulting in the complainant obtaining a key from the landlord to enter the premises.

“Upon inspection of the house, the victims were found unresponsive in the bedroom.

“The complainant called the police, requesting assistance, and made a police report.

“Also found at the scene was a note to their family members.

“According to a witness who is a close friend to the victims, both the deceased never shared their problems and had no enemies,” said Anuar.

Police confirmed no criminal elements were related to the case.

This afternoon, a photograph of the house surrounded by police was posted on the Republic of Bangsar Facebook group page. – The Vibes, April 9, 2021
