KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 2,551 fresh Covid-19 cases today, its highest since February 24, when 3,545 cases were recorded.
The Health Ministry said two fatalities were also recorded, taking the death toll to 1,365.
Of the new cases, 29 are imported.
A total of 1,524 recoveries were logged, as 227 cases remain in intensive care and 91 require breathing support.
Sarawak saw the most cases with 960, more than one-third of the overall figure, followed by Selangor (590), Kuala Lumpur (245) and Sabah (143).
Today’s infection brings the cumulative number of cases in the country to 370,528.
Malaysia also identified seven new clusters today – three of which concern worksites, two from detention centres, one community cluster and another from an educational institution.
The Jalan Sultan Iskandar cluster involves a worksite in Sarawak, and recorded 27 cases after screening 440 individuals.
The Jalan Balakong cluster in Hulu Langat involves a construction company and saw 19 infections.
As for the Jalan Kia Peng cluster, identified after screening individuals with symptoms, eight cases were logged.
The DTI Sandakan cluster was identified after targeted screening at a detention centre and detected 55 new cases, while the DTI Lenggeng cluster in Negri Sembilan – also involving a detention centre – registered 70 infections.
The Jepak cluster in Sarawak was identified after a social event that recorded 50 cases.
The Sri Layang cluster in Bentong saw 420 individuals in an educational institution screened with 16 infections detected. – The Vibes, April 16, 2021
