GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Youth Development Centre (PYDC) has been closed until further notice as one of its staff has tested positive for Covid-19.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee confirmed that the PYDC office on Jalan Ahmad Nor in Sg Pinang has been closed since yesterday after a staff was found infected and went under self-quarantine.

“The staff never had any symptoms of (Covid-19), however he went for a check-up as his parents were found positive for the disease.

“He immediately called the office and informed (it of) the situation, and the office was closed immediately for preventive measures,” said Soon after opening the Malaysia Education Fair at Spice Arena in Bayan Baru here today.

He added that a private company has conducted sanitisation and the office will remain closed until Monday.

“There are 14 staffers in the office and we have restricted visitor (access). They have all gone for health screening and the results are expected to be out on Monday,” he added.

Penang yesterday reported 91 news cases, with 18,084 cases having been detected in the state since the start of the pandemic.

In an update this evening, The Vibes has been informed that according to a PYDC official, the rest of the staffers have since tested negative for Covid-19. – The Vibes, April 17, 2021
