KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 1,140 military personnel have been deployed to assist health authorities working to contain Malaysia’s third Covid-19 wave.

The armed forces, in a statement yesterday, said army, navy and air force personnel are conducting roadblock duties, among others.

“Chief of the Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang has stressed that the air force remains committed and ready to help other agencies contain Covid-19.”

The statement said military personnel have been mobilised under Op Penawar to enforce rules under the recovery, targeted enhanced and conditional movement control order.

“The military will help in security control, including installing concertina wire in high-risk areas like Kunak and Semporna in Sabah.” – Bernama, October 11, 2020
