MIRI – It is another day of anguish for Sarawak as the state saw 760 new Covid-19 infections, four more new clusters emerging, and five more fatalities today.
The latest news brings the death toll to 178 to date, the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said in a statement.
Two deaths were in Sibu Hospital, involving an 84-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, who was found unconscious in his house and was pronounced dead when rushed to the hospital.
The other deaths were that of a 69-year-old man in Miri Hospital, as well for two women, aged 69 and 32, at Sarikei Hospital.
The secretariat said that 760 new infections were recorded statewide, along with four new clusters. These new clusters are the Jalan Agama Cluster in Miri city involving 38 positive cases in a religious centre; the Air Padang Cluster in Miri, involving 19 industrial workers; the Sg Ranan Cluster in Kanowit district, involving 32 natives in a longhouse; and the Nangga Tajam Cluster in Selangau district, involving 34 natives in a longhouse. The total number of clusters in the state stands at 75.
Out of the new infections, Bintulu district recorded the most (202), followed by Kapit (156), Miri (80), Sibu (58), Kuching (32), Subis (32), Kanowit (33), Selangau (26), Pakan (29), Song (24), Meradong (15), Serian (11), Sebauh (11), Sarikei (11), and numerous other districts (below 10 cases each).
The secretariat said Sarawak has also imposed the enhanced movement control order in four more populated settlements in the districts of Sarikei, Pakan, and Kuching. – The Vibes, April 30, 2021
