KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry announced that all schools in the Covid-19 red zone in Petaling district have been ordered to close.

The schools will be closed from tomorrow (October 12) until October 25, and will involve all 298 schools in the district including primary, secondary and private schools registered under the ministry, as well as schools with hostels and vocational colleges.

Located in the heart of the Klang Valley, Petaling district is home to 1.6 million people and includes the cities of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam.

"Parents and guardians have to fetch their children from hostels to return home," the ministry said in a statement today.

Those who are waiting for their parents, or who wish to remain in the school hostels and vocational colleges during the period of school closure, will be under the care of the hostel warden, it added.

"The needs of the pupils staying in the hostels throughout this period will be prepared by the school," said the ministry.

The ministry also said that affected schools that are currently conducting Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trial exams can reschedule the exams to a later date.

For a full list of schools, visit the ministry's website at www.moe.gov.my and at social media platforms of the ministry. – The Vibes, October 11, 2020
