IPOH – A local man was killed and three others sustained serious injuries in an accident involving four vehicles at Km 263.3 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near Menora Tunnel here today.
Meru Fire and Rescue Station chief Shahrudi Muhamad Halil said they received a call around 3.56pm about an incident involving three cars and a motorcycle.
The crash killed a 40-year-old man, K. Nagantheran, he added.
He said two men and a woman sustained serious injuries, while another victim suffered light wounds. Six other victims are unhurt.
“Fire and rescue personnel who arrived at the scene extricated a man trapped in a car using special equipment.
“Other victims were removed by the public before we arrived,” he said in a statement today.
The rescue operation ended at 5pm, and all the victims have been sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, he added.
Meanwhile, Shahrudi said a victim – the driver of a Perodua Myvi – died in the hospital emergency ward this evening.
According to him, the victim, who was identified as Maryamah Talib, 52, of Lengkok Tasek Barat 1A, Taman Anda, here, was the sister of a sergeant attached to the Ipoh district police headquarters.
He said the remains of the victim, a teaching staff of a private hospital here, will be sent for post-mortem. – Bernama, May 2, 2021
