KUALA LUMPUR – “Dear political ulama, please open your eyes and listen to the explanation given before criticising my action to expose a minister’s interference in managing the Royal Malaysia Police.”

This was the response from newly retired top cop Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador following the criticism hurled against him by PAS’ Dewan Ulama.

He said his revelations on prevalent irregularities and misconduct in the force were made so that the issues can be corrected immediately.

“I have already explained that I made a complaint to the prime minister and chief secretary to the government about this matter. Do these political scholars not understand?

“For me, what is the use of deep religious knowledge, but we are afraid to be honest and not overcome these problems?” he told MalaysiaGazette yesterday.

Following the allegations made last Friday, Dewan Ulama information chief Mohd Nor Hamzah said it is inappropriate for an individual like Hamid, who knows about the law and upholds justice in the country, to be emotional in his speech, inviting suspicion.

The former inspector-general of police slammed Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin after the latter admitted to being one of the voices in a leaked audio clip.

“This is what should be avoided. A minister cannot interfere with the management of daily tasks.

“I have already raised this with him (Hamzah). I already raised it with the chief secretary to the government. We have our bosses, we raised it to them, but he still wants the power (to interfere). This is not good for the country.

“I want to clarify that the (home minister’s) responsibility as chairman of the Police Force Commission has a limit.”

He was quoted as saying Hamzah pushed to determine police officers’ placement.

He added that many investigations into police misconduct carried out by the commission chaired by Hamzah have been suspended, and it meets only four times a year. – The Vibes, May 4, 2021
