KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has been summoned to Bukit Aman to give his statement in relation to police’s probe into a list of 121 MPs purportedly supporting him as prime minister, will be questioned at a later date.
Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed, in a statement, said cops initially called up the opposition leader at 11am today, but Anwar’s private secretary said he would only be able to present himself at the federal police headquarters tomorrow at 9am.
However, Bernama reported Huzir as saying the appointment has been delayed yet again.
In his statement, Huzir said six reports have been lodged over the list, which has made the rounds online.
Police opened an investigation after receiving a report from Jerantut MP Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris of Umno on Thursday, he said, adding that the probe is being conducted under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, for intent to cause fear and alarm to the public, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for sharing offensive or menacing content.
Anwar, who claims to have majority support among MPs, has been granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 3pm tomorrow, where he is expected to present evidence that he has the numbers.
His party, PKR, has told supporters not to gather at any location, “especially along major roads heading to Istana Negara”. – The Vibes, October 12, 2020
