MIRI – Sarawak recorded six fresh Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the death toll in the state to 207.

The deaths involve two men, aged 57 and 70, and an 87-year-old woman in Sibu Hospital, a 59-year-old man in Kapit Hospital, a 70-year-old man in Bintulu Hospital, an 90-year-old man in Saratok Hospital.

The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said the victim in Kapit Hospital was brought in already dead.

“His family found him unconscious in his house and rushed him to Kapit Hospital.

“He was confirmed dead upon arrival.”

Sarawak registered 479 new Covid-19 cases today.

Sibu leads the highest number of new cases with 125, followed by Bintulu (110), Miri (89), Kapit (35), Sri Aman (23), Mukah (22), Kuching (14), Kanowit (13) and Sebauh (12), while other districts has fewer than 10 cases each.

The state logged two new clusters today, both involving the community.

The Tebedu Mawang cluster in Tebedu registered 20 cases involving villagers, while the Jelalong cluster in Sebauh recorded 22 cases involving longhouse folk.

The secretariat said three more longhouses have been put under the enhanced movement control order due to an increase in infections, namely Rumah Boniface and Rumah Andin in Kanowit, and Rumah Tanom in Selangau. – The Vibes, May 8, 2021
