KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government has for now decided not to adopt the National Security Council’s (NSC) preventive measure in closing three shopping malls in the state, which are listed under the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE).
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the three premises, namely, Suria Sabah, Centre Point, and Karamunsing Complex, will only be closed if there are Covid-19 cases detected in the malls.
The malls, however, were closed earlier today following the NSC’s directive, and reopened hours later following orders by state authorities.
State laws relating to health come under the Housing and Local Government Ministry, currently led by Masidi.
Meanwhile, the management of Centre Point has issued a notice to notify all tenants that the mall will resume operation as normal.
The management said it received a call at 8.47am this morning that informed it of the closure of the mall.
But the Sabah Disaster Management Committee then called the management at about 4pm, allowing the mall to resume operation.
“Nevertheless, we strive to remove Centre Point from the HIDE list, thus we seek cooperation from everyone to continue adhering to the standard operating procedures,” said the notice.
“Centre Point will always comply with the directive from the government and local authorities.
“Therefore, changes to the current arrangement might happen from time to time, on either short or no prior notice.” –The Vibes, May 9, 2021
