Twitter account owner investigated over fake news on Raya SOP violations in Nilai

NILAI – Police have launched an investigation into a Twitter account owner suspected of spreading fake news on the issuance of compounds for violations of Hari Raya Aidilfitri standard operating procedures in Nilai Impian here.

District police chief Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman, in a statement last night, said the owner of the account “No War But Class War”, with the handle @Icsmxms, will be called up for questioning at the Nilai police headquarters soon.

“The owner of the account uploaded the status ‘The area of my house in Nilai Impian. Host (compounded) RM25K, Guest RM5K’ at 4.33pm (on Thursday).

“Following this, an investigation was conducted in accordance with Sections 505(b) and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 4(1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021.”

He urged the public to stop spreading inaccurate information online.

It was reported yesterday that police have denied the authenticity of a photo that went viral on social media, showing what is claimed to be officers conducting door-to-door checks on the first day of Raya in Nilai Impian.

The force said the photo was misinterpreted as compounds being issued, when in fact, police were conducting a survey of the area with media practitioners on compliance with Raya SOPs. – Bernama, May 15, 2021
