MIRI – A 29-year-old woman was among five new Covid-19 fatalities in Sarawak today bringing the state’s death toll from the virus to 224.
The state also saw 405 new infections with Miri district recording the highest at 98 infections.
The state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said the latest deaths involved three men aged 65, 78 and 92 in Bintulu Hospital, a woman aged 52 in Mukah Hospital and a 29-year-old woman referred by a private clinic in Bintulu to the Bintulu Hospital for high fever.
The woman who suffered from obesity, died in the Bintulu Hospital and the cause of death was confirmed as due to Covid-19, said the secretariat in a press statement.
Sibu was second as far as new cases were concerend today with 54, Kuching (42), followed by with Bintulu (36), Kapit (21), Pusa (37), Kanowit (24), Song (17), Sri Aman (11) while several districts logged less than 10 cases each.
There are 81 active clusters statewide with the Kg Bangan Cluster in Kuching being the newest cluster with 19 cases.
The secretariat said two more longhouses have been placed under the enhanced movement control order for the next two weeks.
They are the Entigi longhouse in Saratok and the Engkah longhouse in Roban, both in southern Sarawak.
The secretariat said state authorities are finding effective “circuit-breakers” to halt the transmission of Covid-19 and flatten the infection curve as well as fatalities. – The Vibes, May 16, 2021
