KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has recorded another 6,806 Covid-19 infections, a day after the country topped the 6,000 mark for the first time.
The Health Ministry said the nation logged 59 deaths, also a record-high, bringing the toll to 2,099.
Selangor remains the state with the highest daily caseload, registering 2,277 today, trailed by Kuala Lumpur with 655, Johor (615) and Sarawak (608), reported the Health Ministry.
Kedah recorded 417 infections, Penang (362), Negri Sembilan (291), Perak (248), Sabah (245), Terengganu (233), Melaka (212) and Pahang (157).
Putrajaya saw 35 new cases, Labuan (17) and Perlis (8).
With the latest cases, which are a 12% increase on yesterday’s 6,075, the national coronavirus tally hits 492,302.
According to the ministry, 587 cases are in intensive care while 330 require intubation.
All deaths involved Malaysians except for a 50-year-old patient who died in Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Baru.
The oldest victim, a 91-year-old man who died at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, had a history of high blood pressure and chronic lung disease.
The youngest victim, a 37-year-old man, reportedly had a history of obesity, died at Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Baru.
On clusters, the ministry reported 528 as active, including 24 new clusters identified today.
Nine of them involve worksites in Selangor, Sarawak, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Melaka. They logged a total of 163 infections.
For community clusters, the ministry reported seven involving Sarawak, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang. These clusters registered 130 cases in total.
Six clusters involving religious activities were identified in Selangor, Johor, Kedah and Sabah, registering 137 cases altogether.
Only one cluster involving educational institutions was identified today. The Kandis cluster in Bachok, Kelantan logged 25 cases. Tok Dor, a high-risk group cluster in Terengganu, also logged 25 infections. – The Vibes, May 20, 2021
