KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said his support of Umno’s demand for a new deal from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government is not done in hopes of being exonerated from several ongoing criminal cases.
As such, Najib maintained in a Facebook post that he harbours no intention of accepting any ministerial positions, be it in the current government or future governments as long as his name has yet to be cleared in court.
“I am a member of the party and therefore I will support the party’s official decision even if I personally do not agree with it. I will not openly criticise it. I will discuss through the party’s internal channel.
“But my advice to Umno and the PN government is that the recovery of the economy, curbing of Covid-19 and the people’s welfare should be of utmost priority. Whatever political manoeuvres must never be allowed to impair that.”
He said Umno’s decision last night has no links to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s latest bid to unseat Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and a possible political cooperation with DAP.
Najib also listed several instances of Umno being “side-lined” in Muhyiddin’s administration.
“The PM is from Pribumi Bersatu. His stand-in is Azmin (Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali) is also from Bersatu. The finance minister is neither from Barisan Nasional (BN) nor PAS.
“In fact, no reps from Umno and PAS were appointed to the Covid-19 Economic Action Council. Instead, people like The Edge's boss along with three Bersatu ministers were in it.
“Like it or not, Umno and BN will be blamed if dubious economic decisions were made even if none from BN or PAS were involved in the decision-making process,” said Najib. – The Vibes, October 14, 2020
