MIRI – Sarawak recorded four more Covid-19 deaths today as it prepares for a curfew tomorrow.

The fresh fatalities involve a man, 72, and two women, aged 57 and 89, respectively, at Sri Aman Hospital, as well as a woman, 77, at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

“With these deaths, the Covid-19 death toll has reached 276 in Sarawak,” said the state Disaster Management Committee.

Sarawak recorded 698 new coronavirus cases today.

Sibu logged the highest number of infections at 159, followed by Miri (125), Kuching (117), Bintulu (43), Lubok Antu (39), Mabong (35), Kapit (33), Samarahan (29) and Sri Aman (27), while other districts have fewer than 20 each.

The committee said a new virus outbreak has been detected in Simunjan and involves a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering.

It said the Hulu Gedong cluster, involving a village, logged 20 cases, so far, adding that screening is currently being done.

So far, Sarawak has 85 Covid-19 clusters and some 45,000 cases. – The Vibes, May 28, 2021
