GEORGE TOWN – With youths aged between 20 and 39 making up a majority of the daily Covid-19 infection numbers nationwide, the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) has organised a sharing and dialogue session.
It will be between Covid-19 survivors, specialists, and enforcers to further educate and answer any questions about the virus.
PYDC deputy general manager Ng Hooi Ting told The Vibes that since the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) of the Health Ministry released statistics in April detailing that youths make up 50% of those infected, they decided to hold a discussion to answer queries from youths regarding the virus.
“Discussions will focus on the panel in question and how it affects individuals and communities.
“This chat session will provide awareness about the real Covid-19 situation.
“Since everything is online during the full movement control order (FMCO), we decided that this is the best time to involve youths, rather than just having them being told to social distance, wear a mask and stay at home.
“We will be sharing this session on PYDC’s Facebook page, where those who tune in can field their questions through the comments section.
“Our panellists will be able to view the questions and answer them accordingly.
“We hope to reach out to at least 10,000 people,” she said.
Named Covid-19: Sampai Bila Chat, it is a series of three sessions live-streamed on June 4 and 5 June.
Viewers can watch it on the Facebook pages of PYDC and Penang Youth and Sports exco Soon Lip Chee.
The first session will be on June 4, at 8.30pm with panellists who recovered from Covid-19 and those with family members who were infected with the virus.
PYDC hopes to provide awareness on the reality and danger of the pandemic which cannot be taken lightly.
The second session is a chat with health specialists held on June 5, at 10am where Penang Hospital medical consultant and infectious diseases unit head Dr Chow Ting Soo and community pharmacist Foon Hwei Foong will be speaking about the developments of the Covid-19 vaccine and the challenges faced by frontliners.
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) enforcers will be giving their point of view during the final session on June 5 at 2.30pm.
George Town OCPD Soffian Santong, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia Penang Operations Division assistant director Mohd Hafiz Hafizal Timaradin, and Penang Island City Council assistant director of security Capt (R) Mohd Feroze Md Noor will be explaining about the current state of affairs when it comes to SOP compliance.
The live stream will also be shared with the Village Community Management Council youth bureau, universities and colleges, youth volunteers, and more than 30 youth councils. – The Vibes, June 2, 2021
