MIRI – Four Covid-19 clusters have erupted in Sarawak following social gatherings in those localities, resulting in a total of 75 cases so far.
The state also recorded four more deaths and 703 new cases today.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee, a longhouse Gawai gathering resulted in the Sg Durin cluster in Sibu district, where 22 residents have been infected.
Authorities also detected the Jalan Masket cluster in Sebauh district following a longhouse social gathering there, where 17 individuals have tested positive so far.
The Jalan Airport cluster here saw 12 infected residents after a social gathering while the Jalan Ilmu cluster, also here, recorded 24 cases following a gathering at a food and entertainment outlet.
The secretariat said active tracing and screening are being carried out in these four clusters.
Meanwhile, the four victims today were a 50-year-old man in Miri Hospital, a woman aged 62 in Sibu Hospital, a 72-year-old man in Kapit Hospital, and a 63-year-old man who was brought dead to Sri Aman Hospital.
The death toll for the state stands at 326.
Of the new infections, Kuching and Miri districts logged 139 cases each.
This is followed by Tg Manis with 68 cases, Kapit (58), Sibu (55), Bintulu (52), Song (49), Samarahan (25), Kabong (17), and other districts with fewer than 15 cases each.
The secretariat said there are 77 clusters in the state.
As for the AstraZeneca vaccination programme, the secretariat said the jabs are being administered in Kuching and Miri starting today.
In Kuching, the AstraZeneca vaccination centre is at the Borneo Convention Centre while in Miri, it is at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara centre. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
