KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan today called on party members to show political maturity and cautioned against getting dragged into the ongoing tussle to take over Putrajaya.
In a statement, he said this will show Malaysians the party’s sincerity in caring for their welfare, which may be affected if Bersatu members play politics, during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are seeing two veteran politicians who have been yearning to be prime minister, create a new political crisis when the PM (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) is trying his best to safeguard the people’s welfare.
“There are also opportunists who filed a motion of no-confidence against the PM. This is not the time to do this. I am confident that their actions contradict what many people want right now.
“Right now, the politicians should not focus on a power grab or to purposely disrupt the stability and economy of the country.”
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, has been bogged down with a political crisis after PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim initiated a bid to form a new government.
Anwar was granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Tuesday over the majority parliamentary backing to unseat Muhyiddin.
Later that night, Umno announced that it was considering withdrawing its support if the PN government failed to agree to new terms it intended to propose.
The latest blow to Muhyiddin was the successive filing of no-confidence motions by five Pejuang MPs, who were former leaders of Bersatu. They left Bersatu after the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in late February.
Besides Anwar, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had emerged as another candidate for prime minister.
The Vibes had two days ago reported that Tengku Razaleigh told the Agong that he was willing to offer his “sacrifice” to end the current political uncertainty. – The Vibes, October 16, 2020
