MIRI – Eight more fatalities were recorded in Sarawak today, along with four new outbreak-clusters and 699 new infections as the Covid-19 crisis persists in this vast state.
The eight fatalities involved two men aged 53 and 63 and a woman aged 80 at Miri Hospital, a man aged 78 and a woman aged 68 at Sibu Hospital, a woman aged 72 at Kanowit Hospital, a man aged 55 at a Subis clinic and a woman aged 80 at a Tatau clinic.
“The eight confirmed fatalities brought the coronavirus death tally in the state to 342,” the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said today, and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased.
Sarawak also saw 699 new infections, with Kuching district continuing to register a high of 205 cases, followed by Sibu with 79, Bintulu with 72, Tatau with 71, Song with 41, Kapit with 31, Miri with 27, and numerous districts with under 20 new cases each.
As for the four new outbreaks, the secretariat said the Kg Kolong 2 Cluster in Kuching was due to a Hari Raya gathering, which caused 36 villagers to be infected by Covid-19.
The Pekan Baru cluster in Tatau district saw 27 workers from a factory and a longhouse infected, while the Sg Kakus Cluster in Tatau saw 51 folks in a longhouse and nearby oil palm estate contracting the virus.
