KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said it will ensure the stop-work order issued on the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Highway (DASH) is complied with, following the accident on Saturday that left one dead and another injured.

LLM director-general Datuk Mohd Shuhaimi Hassan said the order involves the works on scaffolding and falsework in 10 locations, including the accident site, and will continue until the government is satisfied with the safety measures taken.

He said discussions and joint visits with the Occupational Safety And Health Department (DOSH) and several companies involved, including Projek Lintasan Damansara Shah Alam Sdn Bhd (PLDSASB), consultant engineering companies Zaidun Leeng Sdn. Bhd (ZLSB), Ranhill Bersekutu Sdn Bhd, and main contractor Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad were held between June 19, 20, and 21.

“LLM has also instructed PLDSASB, ZLSB, and RBSB to implement follow-up evaluation and inspection in relation to the incident.

“Among others, this includes compliance with all designs of scaffolding used, covering safety factors, method statement, procedures and documentation, site monitoring, and other possible causes of incidents involving machinery, construction materials, site condition, existing structures, and environmental factors.”

According to the Fire and Rescue Department report, the 7pm incident on Saturday (June 19) occurred near the NKVE’s Kota Damansara toll.

The victims were between 20 and 40 years old.

They were working underneath the concrete slab when the incident occurred.

On Sunday (June 20), Prolintas issued an immediate stop-work order for the affected construction site.

Shuhaimi said the LLM has held talks with concessionaires and consultants, including the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), DOSH, and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to study improvements involving the construction of new highways.

“LLM has also extended its appreciation to PLDSASB for its assistance in reducing the burden faced by the families of the victims involved.

“This includes arrangements to send the body of the deceased home and compensating the family of the deceased.” – The Vibes, June 21, 2021
