KOTA KINABALU – Accused of playing dirty, the politician who posted a photo alleging that a Sabah minister ate turtle eggs said he will leave the case to the authorities to investigate.
Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong had few words to say after Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin accused him of playing dirty and sharing a manipulated photo of the latter.
“Let the authorities investigate,” Wong told The Vibes yesterday.
He was responding to Bung Moktar’s statement that Warisan’s loss in the last state election was because the party used “dirty” political tactics, insinuating that Wong shared the edited photo for political ploy.
Bung Moktar said he found out that Wong was one of the first to share the photo on Facebook, but the post was later removed.
The person who posted the photo should be the first to be investigated by the authorities, he said.
“This (accusation) was all caused by a political ploy, and this is ‘dirty’ politics.”
The photo, showing Bung Moktar with what appears to be a dish of turtle eggs on a dining table, went viral on Thursday. The state Umno chief later dismissed it as having been edited.
In Sabah, green turtles (Chelonia mydas) are fully protected under Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
The possession of turtle eggs in the state is an offence under the enactment, punishable by a maximum RM50,000 fine, or two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. – The Vibes, June 27, 2021
