MIRI – Two women in their 30s are among Sarawak’s four new Covid-19 deaths today.

After two days of seeing cases below 500, the state logged 544 fresh infections, taking its total to 65,395.

One of the new victims is a 32-year-old woman from the remote Telang Usan district in northern Sarawak who was dead on arrival at Miri Hospital.

She did not have comorbidities, and died of the coronavirus in her settlement.

A 70-year-old man died at the same hospital.

Two victims – a 35-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man – died at Sibu Hospital.

“The latest four fatalities take the death toll to 413,” said the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC).

Kuching saw 118 new cases, Tebedu (63), Sibu (58), Bintulu (56), Miri (43), Song (41), Telang Usan (21) and other districts (below 20).

A fresh cluster was detected, namely the Lorong 3 Kg Siol Kandis cluster in Kuching, in which 45 villagers contracted the virus during a funeral.

Sarawak has recorded a total of 95 clusters, said the state DMC.

Another three settlements – the Rumah Was longhouses in Tatau district, Rumah Nyandang in Meradong and Kg Mongkos in Serian – have been placed under the enhanced movement control order following a spike in infections. – The Vibes, July 1, 2021
