GEORGE TOWN – Putrajaya should start stockpiling Covid-19 vaccines to prepare for the endemic stage, proposed state PKR deputy chief Sim Tze Tzin.

He said Malaysia should take its cue from Singapore and start importing more jabs as a precaution.

“Singapore is importing more vaccines now, and there are developed countries who have decided to store vaccines for 500% of their population,” he said after visiting the vaccination centre at the Equatorial Hotel in Bukit Jambul.

He suggested the jabs can be from any of the approved brands, including Malaysia’s own vaccine, if the plan comes to fruition.

Sim also urged the National Security Council to relook approvals for factories to operate during Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan, saying that it is obvious that the spate of infections now comes from the manufacturing sector.

“They are the only ones operating. Other economic sectors have closed.”

Sim also said more public agencies should be converted into front-line enforcement units, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Department, to ensure compliance to standard operating procedures not just in factories, but offices as well.

He said transportation, workplaces and housing for factory workers need to be sanitised and set up according to existing regulations. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
