MIRI – A longhouse chief has been fined RM4,000 for allowing a Gawai Dayak gathering to take place during the current lockdown.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the head of Rumah Sigi in Sarikei district was penalised for violating the standard operating procedures.

“He was fined RM4,000 for allowing the Gawai Dayak celebration to take place in the longhouse corridor,” it said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, two Covid-19 deaths were reported today – a 56-year-old man in Sibu Hospital and a 59-year-old man in Sarikei Hospital.

“The death toll is now 421.”

A new cluster called Sg Sengkabang involves two longhouses in Subis district, with 58 people were infected.

The state also recorded 286 new cases, of which Kuching logged 85, Subis had 50, Miri 32, Sibu 21, and Bintulu 11, with other districts logging fewer than 10 cases each. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
