MIRI – Cries for help are getting louder as more urban poor families Sarawak are struggling to feed their children.
One of the families had to resort to feeding their children, including a baby, orange cordial as milk is longer affordable for them.
Their plight reached Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, who dropped by with his team to provide the families daily essential items.
“Today we were on the ground to respond to calls for help from families struggling to put food on the table.
“When we were at their shelter, we realised there were children and an infant who were fed orange drinks.
“It broke our hearts when the mother said she had no choice because she cannot afford milk,” said Dr Yii.
He added that his team provided the mother some milk powder for her baby and children.
“For now, we are giving some simple food aid from our own resources to help them. We may not have much, but we will try to do as much as we can.”
Dr Yii said the RM300,000 allocation for food aid from Putrajaya is on its way.
He added that his team is looking into food items to buy and trying to secure the best prices. – The Vibes, July 7, 2021
