KUCHING – Sarawak’s economic sector may be the first to benefit when the state moves to the second phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
State Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom said this in his Facebook post after visiting the Mydin industrial vaccination centre at Vista Tunku in Petra Jaya.
Rundi said: “The state Disaster Management Committee will find ways on how to loosen the current standard operating procedures (SOPs) and allow economic activities to commence first, as there are indications that the state is heading in the right direction towards the second phase of the NRP.”
He pointed out that in the last two days, Sarawak recorded a daily Covid-19 tally of less than 300 infections, and that this is an indication that the state’s vaccination initiative is succeeding.
Many states, he pointed out, have gravitated to the second phase of the NRP and it will be Sarawak’s turn next.
To date, Sarawak has managed to vaccinate 60 per cent of its population with 1.3 million people receiving the first dose and 20 per cent having completed both doses.
“We aim to target 85% of individuals aged 18 and above to be vaccinated before the end of August,” he added.
The Mydin industry vaccination centre is expected to vaccinate 1,000 people per day.
It commenced operations today and aims to vaccinate more than 3,000 people by Saturday. It will reopen in three weeks’ time to administer the second dose of the vaccine.
The other private sectors providing vaccination venues in the state are Sarawak Energy Berhad, Emart Holdings Sdn Bhd, iCom Square Management Sdn Bhd and City One MC Sdn Bhd. – The Vibes, July 8, 2021
