Illegal taxi operator sets off new Covid-19 cluster in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU – An illegal taxi operator sparked a new Covid-19 cluster that has recorded 44 cases, so far, in Beaufort.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the 68-year-old taxi operator, who has been experiencing cough and fever since July 1, tested positive for the coronavirus at Beaufort Hospital on July 3.

“This Kota Kilas cluster involves infections in the community, with the majority being customers and family members of the index case in localities around the Kota Kilas subdistrict.

“Of the 71 contacts screened, 60.5% were found positive, with a total 44 cases, including four new ones today (yesterday),” he said in a statement last night.

Sabah recorded 370 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing its caseload to 73,506. – Bernama, July 16, 2021
