MIRI – Members of the public received a thumbs up from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department for rescuing a family of four from drowning when their car plunged into a monsoon drain at Jalan Camar, Petra Jaya in Kuching last night.

State director Khirudin Drahman said more than 12 people had jumped into the 2m-deep drain to rescue the victims.

The accident involving a couple and two children saw their car trying to avoid another vehicle and ending up in the drain.

“They were the first responders and they saved the family,” said Khirudin, adding that among those involved in the rescue efforts were food delivery riders. – The Vibes, July 18, 2021
