GEORGE TOWN – The opposition will be another MP short tomorrow for the special parliamentary sitting, with Penang chief minister and Tanjong MP Chow Kon Yeow being forced to undergo Covid-19 quarantine.
Chow told the media in a statement that he was notified today that his escort officer, who is believed to be seconded from the police force, had tested positive.
"As a result, I have been ordered by the State Health Department to undergo quarantine at my home with immediate effect,” he said.
Earlier, Chow said that he underwent a RT-PCR screening on Friday, where the outcome was negative.
However, the DAP lawmaker has to undergo another test on Wednesday.
In Penang, Chow was among the first to be fully dosed with the Pfizer vaccine during the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
On top of missing the lower House's first meeting since emergency was declared, Chow was also forced to cancel a site visit to an NGO-managed vaccination centre at the Autocity Juru shopping arcade in Bukit Mertajam.
One Hope Charity & Welfare Sdn Bhd has invested over RM2 million to set up the centre here at Shop-In d’Park Auto City, Juru, which is expected to begin operations tomorrow.
It remains to be seen if the daily administration of the state government will be affected with Chow in self-isolation. – The Vibes, July 25, 2021
