KLANG – Four people suffered light injuries and another died following a scaffolding collapse at an LRT3 construction site near Premiere Hotel here.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a call on the incident at 2.41pm and deployed members arrived at the scene at 2.58pm.

It confirmed that the indivdual who died was a Bangladeshi citizen and that three other compatriots were among those injured.

The fourth person injured was confirmed by the department as an Indonesian citizen.

Earlier, a video of the incident was shared on social media, showing a small portion of the rail construction site had collapsed, prompting public concern.

It is understood that there is a Covid-19 vaccination centre set up in the hotel that started operations on July 15.

Pembinaan Jaya Zira Sdn Bhd, the contractor for work package GS09 of the LRT3 project, is working with the Fire and Rescue Department to determine the cause of the incident.

In a statement, the company said a stop-work order has been issued.

“We express our deep regret and condolences to the victims and their families, and apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused.”
