KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Port Dickson-PH) has submitted a motion of no-confidence on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following the statement by Istana Negara admonishing the law minister’s announcement on the revocation of the emergency ordinances.
Anwar’s online press conference came after today’s sitting was delayed for the second time after its lunch break.
He said that with other Pakatan Harapan leaders, it is clear that the prime minister has committed “derhaka” (treason) towards the royal institution while lacking the majority support in the lower House.
He also slammed Muhyiddin’s Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan from PAS, over the latter’s announcement on the retroactive revocation of the emergency ordinances on July 21, which did not receive the royal assent.
“This is clearly based on the media statement from Istana Negara that rebuked the rude and treasonous behaviour of Takiyuddin Hassan who said that all emergency ordinances were revoked on July 21, whereas His Majesty wanted it to be tabled and debated in Parliament.
“Therefore, as Port Dickson MP and opposition chief, we have taken the stance to call for a motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Pagoh MP, to resign or be stripped of his position as soon as possible, in accordance with the constitution.”
His press conference was also interrupted by a Parliament public service announcement calling for all in the august House to go for Covid-19 screenings.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat-BN) told the Dewan Rakyat that it will be adjourned for the third time today, from 3.30pm to 5.15pm, saying that there are two fresh Covid-19 cases on the premises.
“Thank you,” said Anwar after the announcement ended.
“This is the ploy that I said they were using earlier. We know that screenings can be done without disrupting the affairs of Parliament. For the majority of the MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, we know Muhyiddin has practically been stripped of his position as prime minister.
“Seeing that the Dewan Rakyat speaker (Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun) had made the mistake of defending the prime minister’s administration, he should honourably resign as soon as possible.
“The Agong also mentioned Takiyuddin’s name twice. He should resign too.”
Earlier, the PKR president had read out Istana Negara’s statement, that illustrated Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s disappointment over the law minister and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun for their disobedience. – The Vibes, July 29, 2021
