GEORGE TOWN – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must take responsibility by resigning and dissolving the Perikatan Nasional government following the polemic from Istana Negara.
Umno veteran Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff said the issues that have erupted between the palace and government had never before happened in the 64 years since Malaysia attained independence.
In a press conference today, the 91-year-old described Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan’s announcement in Parliament on the revocation of emergency ordinances as “lies” that are in violation of the federal constitution and disrespectful to the institution of Malay rulers.
“It has never happened before, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s reprimand of the government as what happened yesterday, and the response from the government seems to be contrary to what Istana Negara has revealed.
“To me, this is very inappropriate, and the prime minister should be held accountable and resign.”
He proposed the establishment of an interim government comprising leaders from various backgrounds as a temporary solution until the next general election.
Among the names that can be considered are Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Tun Musa Hitam, all of whom have extensive experience in the country’s administration.
The 2011 National Independence figure added that the interim administration can also include experts from various fields, as well as non-governmental organisations.
“These experts, who are free from politicking, can restore the confidence of the people and ensure the country’s stability.”
Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday expressed his utmost disappointment with Takiyuddin’s statement in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday morning that the government has revoked all emergency ordinances, despite the matter not having first received royal assent.
He also expressed disappointment that his decree to Takiyuddin and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun for the proposed revocation of the ordinances to be tabled and debated in Parliament was not executed.
In response, Muhyiddin’s office insisted that there is no need to debate the revocation, pointing to a royal audience at noon next Tuesday. – The Vibes, July 30, 2021
