KUALA LUMPUR – The Perak MCA Youth chief has veered away from his party’s stance and urged Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign, to make way for another individual able to navigate the country out of its Covid-19 situation.
Daniel Wa Wai How said the Pagoh MP should no longer keep the country in dire straits resulting from the government's failure to implement a full lockdown on all sectors during the emergency.
In an interview with Sinar Harian, Wa said the country has breached more than one million cases of Covid-19 despite the government having come up with a variety of formulas to tackle the pandemic.
“We are unable to see the direction of the country clearly due to the political instability that has affected the effectiveness of the government’s administration.
“To me personally, the prime minister should step down respectfully so that the government can be replaced by a new leader,” he said.
"The new prime minister should have a limited time to serve, that is, six months to continue the vaccination programme for all Malaysians and to manage the administration ahead of the 15th general elections.”
Wa, who is also the federal MCA Youth secretary, said Muhyiddin must also be aware of his administration’s failures as the majority of Malaysians are still under lockdown until August.
He said the factories that have triggered many workplace clusters had been given special treatment by the International Trade and Industry Ministry and were allowed to operate.
Wa said that this decision was unfair towards smaller entrepreneurs and businesses that have lost their income for more than two months, and who still needed to make utility and rental payments.
“Our frontliners are working day and night and facing burnout due to the uncontrollable rise of positive Covid-19 cases nationwide during the emergency,” Wa said.
“To me, Malaysians need a leader who can fight Covid-19 and restore the economy, not a leader who uses the emergency to prolong his rule.”
Wa added that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, or Gua Musang MP and Umno veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah were the two candidates best suited to replace Muhyiddin based on their experience. – The Vibes, August 1, 2021
