MIRI – As Sarawak ramps up its vaccination effort, its capital, Kuching, saw some 400 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours.

State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said in social media posts today that 401 virus cases were reported by the Kuching health office between midnight Saturday to yesterday.

“There were also 54 cases outside Kuching, namely in Bau (22), Samarahan (7), Lundu (16) and Serian (9).

“Meanwhile, 54 cases are pending investigation, 19 are symptomatic for testing, six are under pre-test and five are active case detection.

“As for clusters in the workplace, there are 90 cases,” he said.

Dr Sim also said that, among the infected, those who were not vaccinated accounted for 47 cases, while those ineligible for vaccination stood at 43, those who have received two vaccine doses (113), those have received one vaccine dose (73) and those whose infection sources were yet to be determined (122).
