KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry reports 710 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 24,514.
About 709 infections were locally transmitted while only one was imported, according to a statement from Health Director-General Tun Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Currently there are 8,416 active cases with 90 of them seeking intensive care and 28 on ventilator support.
Ten additional fatalities were reported today, the most ever recorded in a single day in Malaysia. The death toll is now at 214.
The majority of the cases continued to come from Sabah, which reported 528 cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said the high numbers in Sabah is attributed to the Health Ministry's persistence in its active case detection work.
Selangor has the second highest number of cases, although the 62 cases reported on Friday is an improvement from the triple-digit cases in previous days.
Kedah only recorded one case, with the sole infection coming from the Tembok cluster.
Other states that recorded new cases are Penang (39), Negri Sembilan (37), Labuan (19), Kuala Lumpur (10), Perak (four), Johor (four), Terengganu (two), Sarawak (two) and Pahang (one). – The Vibes, October 23, 2020
