KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan and Amanah Youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin, 34, has died after battling Covid-19 for the past two weeks.

He had been reported in critical condition and was declared a Category 5 patient on Sunday.

Category 5 is the most severe form of Covid-19, which means patients are in critical condition and require assisted ventilation.

On July 24, Amanah Youth secretary Asim Abdullah Ainullotfi confirmed that Shazni was weak and had been classified as a Category 4 patient.

Category 4 patients are symptomatic and have contracted lung infections that make ventilator support necessary.

Asim had then confirmed that Shazni Munir’s wife and children also tested positive for the virus and were in quarantine at their home while awaiting further instructions from the health authorities.

In a Facebook post, Amanah president Mohammad Sabu expressed his condolences to Shazni Munir’s family and friends.

“His loss is a big one for all of us. I am in total shock over the loss of this young man who was very close to me.

“May Allah bestow him forgiveness and place him among the righteous,” he said.

Shazni Munir was made Amanah Youth chief on July 4, last year, after his predecessor, Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim, defected to Bersatu.

He was later appointed PH Youth chief on March 5 following support from both the Amanah and DAP Youth wings. His appointment had come amid a push by PKR Youth to have its chief and Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir fill the post.

Shazni Munir, who died at Melaka Hospital, had first tweeted on his bout with the virus on July 19.

According to sources within Amanah Youth, Shazni Munir's remains will be brought to the forensics department before being taken to Muar for burial by this evening.

Amanah Youth is also raising funds to aid Shazni Munir’s widow and children following the loss.

Contributions can be channelled to Tabung Amanah Peduli at the Maybank account 5642-9432-6721.

Donors are advised to name their reference slip under Shazni Munir.

Further enquiries can also be made to Amanah Youth treasurer Mohd Saifullah at 013-7701001. – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
