MIRI – Sarawak is expected to administer Covid-19 booster shots this October.
The state Disaster Management Committee is drawing up plans for this with the Sarawak Covid-19 Advisory Group, said committee adviser Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian today.
Sim, who is state housing and local government minister, said the booster shot is needed to deal with continuous high infections now, especially with new variants.
“We can start the third booster shot earliest by October if approved. We are also looking into the best vaccine for those aged 12 to 18.
“Of the 1,100 infections at Sarawak General Hospital, some are below 18 years old. That is why it is urgent to vaccinate this group,” he said after meeting hawkers at Kenyalang Park in Kuching.
Today, Sarawak saw 652 new infections.
Kuching has 231 cases, followed by Simunjan (84), Serian (65), Mukah (55), Miri (34), Sibu (31), Bintulu (24) and other districts (fewer than 20). – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
