ALOR STAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has apologised over the “joke” he made on freezer containers for Covid-19 victims after facing fierce public backlash.

In a press conference today, he said he was only joking with media “friends” whom he considered to be like family.

“I would like to apologise for our jokes that were circulated out of context. I like to joke but, since the joke is a bit rude, I want to let you know that I was only joking with the reporters.

“The recording of the press conference that went viral yesterday was out of context. Because some parties are offended, I apologise,” he said at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) vaccination centre (PPV) today.

He said his close media friends know that he likes to joke but also accepts the criticism.

“Journalists know my character, but because I’m on camera, it’s my fate. Many also sent messages criticising me but I accepted it. Some like it, some hate it.”

Sanusi’s remarks yesterday during a press conference on freezer containers to hold Covid-19 victims were widely panned.

“There are enough funeral containers, who wants to book for a spot, give us your name,” he had said jokingly.

“It’s not like we want the people of Kedah to die. People in Sg Petani must adhere to the SOPs (standard operating procedures). The hospitals are full.” – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
