KOTA KINABALU – Sabah recorded a new high of 1,379 Covid-19 cases today, with Kota Kinabalu topping the list at 351 cases.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said urban areas have shown a significant increase in infections, possibly due to more people going back to workplaces and eased restrictions on social activities.

“We urge the public to limit social activities, and obey the standard operating procedures,” he said.

Despite no new clusters being recorded in the state today, two existing clusters saw a high number of new cases namely the Gambaron cluster in Telupid with 68 cases and the Pauh cluster in Kinabatangan with 60 cases.

Nabawan, which recorded five new Covid-19 cases, remains the only orange district (20-40 active cases), while the rest of the 26 districts are categorised as red zones (over 40 active cases).

Besides Kota Kinabalu topping the chart with the highest number of fresh infections, Tawau also saw a total of 160 cases while Tuaran had 152, Penampang had 113 and Sandakan saw 75.

Meanwhile, a total of 10,840 people in Sabah registered for the Covid-19 vaccination today resulting in the current registration rate standing at 46.1% out of the state’s total population.

A total of 43,314 doses of vaccine were administered today, including 28,658 people receiving their first jab and 14,656 getting their second shot.

To date, a total of 464,469 people in Sabah have completed their vaccination. The state has some 2.8 million Malaysians above the age of 18. –The Vibes, Aug 8, 2021
