KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has urged the government to handle the Covid-19 crisis through reasonable means, focusing on constitutional principles, economic recovery and science.

“I urge the government to handle this crisis with a focus on constitutionalism and ramping up efforts to educate the public on a scientific and data-driven basis,” Mohamad Hasan said in a Facebook post today.

He said the pandemic and the fallout from it is something that the whole world is trying to grapple with, and that it is not something that is unique to Malaysia.

The Rantau state assemblyman added Malaysia is currently far ahead of other nations in battling the crisis.

“The ability of Malaysia’s healthcare service in handling this crisis has been tested and has also been recognised as an exemplary model to be followed.

“Thus, whatever actions that are taken to handle to handle this crisis must portray the government’s ability to react reasonably, and scientifically while considering the needs of the public,” he said.

Mohamad Hasan added, the efforts of the government should now be focused on the recovery of the economy and called for the ruling administration to allow the country's democratic institutions to continue functioning.

“Handle this crisis by strengthening the constitution, allow democracy to function, tidy up the public health response systems and put public interests first without adding extra burdens upon everyday citizens,” he added. - The Vibes, October 24, 2020
