SUNGAI PETANI – A senior citizen was arrested at Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan in the wee hours of the morning over a viral video which allegedly insulted Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor following his recent gaffe on freezer containers.

The 61-year-old was brought to Sg Petani to be detained after a police report lodged by Sanusi’s special officer, Azizan Hamzah.

Kuala Muda district police chief Adzli Abu Shah said the nine-minute Facebook video uploaded by the account with the username Kamal Hero Malaya was politically motivated, had intended to insult, bring down the dignity and tarnish Sanusi's reputation.

“The police have confiscated the suspect’s mobile phone. He was also found to have a past criminal record that is still being investigated under section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“However, the suspect will be released on police bail after all evidence is taken. The investigation will be completed soon before being referred to the deputy public prosecutor,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“Offences under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act can be fined not more than RM100, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 carries a fine of not more than RM30,000 or imprisonment for a year or both if convicted,” he said.

Adzli also advised the community not to upload anything obscene or which could embarrass other individuals, as it could provoke public order and disrupt the peace.

In the video, the man said that Sanusi was “displaying his stupidity for all to see”, a “minister filled with controversy” and was “not fit to be Kedah’s menteri besar” by making remarks on the Covid-19 dead, among others. He even taunted Sanusi by challenging the menteri besar to give him a call, stating his contact number two times in the video.

The video has gone viral on social media since Sunday.

Sanusi has since apologised over the “joke” he made on freezer containers for Covid-19 victims

He had earlier stated that “there are enough funeral containers, and whoever wants to book for a spot, can give us your name” during a press conference, resulting in a fierce public backlash. – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
