KUALA LUMPUR – The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme has shown early positive developments, with a drop in Categories 3 to 5 patients in six states, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The prime minister said Health Ministry data shows that more than 40% of the population aged 18 and above in Labuan, Sarawak, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“Yesterday, no new Covid-19 cases were reported in Labuan for the first time,” he said in a statement today.

“Data on hospitals issued by the Crisis Preparedness Response Centre shows that the situation at emergency departments in the Klang Valley has also improved.”

On average, the number of patients waiting for admission to wards at ministry hospitals in the Klang Valley has dropped, he added.

On July 31, the average number of patients waiting for admission stood at 909, but it declined to 239 on Friday.

Muhyiddin said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Friday said the implementation of Operation Surge Capacity in the Klang Valley on July 26 led to a slide in hospital admission rates for Covid-19 patients from all age groups.

“Everyone should quickly register for vaccination, including pregnant women and teenagers in the age group approved by the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee.

“Employers should also ensure their employees, including migrant workers, are vaccinated.”

The national inoculation drive was launched on February 24.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said efforts to ramp up the jab rate are being focused on states that record a surge in infections.

The government supplied two million vaccine doses to Johor recently, while Sabah is due to receive 1.5 million doses this month.

So far, said Muhyiddin, 44.1% of the country’s adult population has been vaccinated, while 72.1% has received the first dose. – Bernama, August 15, 2021
