KUALA LUMPUR – The nation’s political crisis has even reached local celebrities as singer Faizal Tahir is facing heat from netizens after his tweet yesterday.
He caught a fiery backlash from Twitterjaya after replying to a tweet that described Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership as a failure, Getaran reported.
Faizal said: “If you have nothing nice to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all. This is not the teaching of our beloved Prophet, this is not a character of Islam. Only cowards don’t show themselves while throwing stones.”

His tweet garnered more than 1,300 retweets, 3,200 quote tweets and 2,600 likes.
He was replying to Twitter user @amirulruslan, who said: “Muhyiddin Yassin, the 18-month dictator. A legacy of failure. A treacherous politician, abuser of civil liberties, overseer of the death of 10,000 people, 99% of whom died because of his government’s contempt for sticking to quarantine rules. May history remember you with hate.”
Faizal’s response also garnered criticism that he did not understand the religious context of “keeping quiet”.
Twitter user @yahyaa_89 said: “It’s also not Islamic to backstab, to abuse power, to indulge in corruption (read scheme of things) and be deceitful. Not to mention all the failures of this government leading to 12,000 people dead. Have some empathy.”
Meanwhile, user @naimdanielx asked “is the tyranny that claimed thousands of lives the teachings of Rasulullah?”

Faizal did have some supporters as they said the government could not be blamed for everything as individuals did not adhere to the public health standard operating procedures.
