KUALA LUMPUR – In an effort to form the government soon, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has called for the return of the 2018 mandate, inviting ex-Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs back into the coalition.
He said this would allow citizens to see their votes in the 2018 general election realised for its full term.
“Let bygones be bygones, and let’s create a new history and rebuild our beloved nation.
“I invite all my fellow parliamentarians who won under PH’s ticket in the last election to unite under the coalition’s umbrella and return the mandate to the people,” Sabu said in a statement today.
The Kota Raja MP gave his assurance that, with the return of ex-PH parliamentarians, no one would be left behind, as the views of the opposition would also be taken into account in the nation’s administration.
Meanwhile, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Facebook that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation was a welcome decision and would create the space needed to thrust the nation forward.
“I urge all sides to remain calm and pray that Malaysia can return stronger in facing the health and economic crises.
“I also thank Muhyiddin for his service to the country,” Anwar said.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin tendered his resignation as prime minister and will now serve as a caretaker prime minister until a new person is appointed to the post.
The Pagoh MP resigned after 15 Umno MPs, led by its president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, withdrew support from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration.
Meanwhile, Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Baktiar Wan Chik said Muhyiddin’s resignation was not because of shrewd political maneuvering by any factions but rather the actual consequences of his incompetency and failure to steer the country during the pandemic, resulting in the mistrust of MPs in his leadership.
“We, the rakyat, have become unwilling witnesses to 12,000 senseless deaths because of Covid-19, unemployment rates reaching as high as 4.8% as of June, and the breakdown of proper education mechanisms with no definite solutions in sight.
“During this challenging time with the lack of proper leadership for our nation, let us not forget how we too have suffered under the stewardship of Barisan Nasional, which ruled the country with unbridled abuse of power and endless corruption for more than 60 years,” he said.
Baktiar said that at this moment, the country’s only option is to be steered by a figure that only has Malaysia and Malaysians in his heart and mind. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
