KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will be meeting the leaders of all political parties, including the opposition, tomorrow in meetings likely related to the vacant prime minister post.

A source from the opposition camp said the king is meeting all Pakatan Harapan leaders to determine the opposition bloc’s support among MPs in the House.

It is understood that the series of meetings with the party chiefs will begin at 2pm.

“Tuanku has taken cognisance of the fact that PH received the people’s mandate in the 14th general election, and hence wants to ensure that any leader or government who takes over has the buy-in of the people,” a source close to the palace told The Vibes.

“More importantly, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong wants a stable government to manage the pandemic and fix the economy.

“The last thing the king wants is yet another political crisis. This His Majesty will not tolerate,” said the source.

Utusan Malaysia earlier reported that the meeting will also be attended by Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun and the Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Tan Sri Rais Yatim.

“Tomorrow there will be a meeting at Istana Negara between party leaders and the Agong. Two speakers have been invited,” a source told the daily.

The meeting tomorrow comes after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin officially tendered and announced his resignation as prime minister this afternoon.

Following the resignation, the palace had named Muhyiddin as the caretaker prime minister pending the appointment of his successor. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
